When threads turn into 3-dimensional structures.
Design Background
Having been raised in a province which is renowned in handicrafts, I experienced the embroideries’ beauty through daily objects and cultures. The embroidered products are gorgeous however most of them are created into a form of sheets.
I questioned myself. What if hand embroidery techniques are turned into 3-dimentaional structures, how will it be?

Inspiration
The movements of threads of hand-embroidery became an inspiration of this project. I started to analyze moments then grouped them into categories which included stretching, tightening, crossing, and linking.
The analyzed result were resonated thoroughly through experimental pieces which have different making-concepts.
Prototyping
Have explored and created sample pieces, I discovered the aesthetic of embroidery which is a mixture of soft and hard materials. This aesthetic was enhanced for furniture design.
In terms of production processes, digital tools were used due to the fact that hand crafting consumes time. Additionally, producing some components with 2 different methods, digital and traditional, aimed to find the new approach of crafting in digital age.
Developing group : The concept was using alternative material instead of using thread with basic embroidery patterns.
Defining group : This group concentrated in exploring the new definition of hand-embroidery via alternative materials and aspects.
3D modeling group : Using CAD program in order to generate 3-dimensional forms which were inspired by hand-embroidery patterns.
